What CIVA brings to NDT
Simulations capabilities of the CIVA software allow optimizing the design of a testing procedure. Indeed, the CIVA software is accounting for most of the influent parameters involved during such a testing procedure, for what concerns the probe, the geometry and the material of the test piece, but also the flaws to be detected. By combining and varying all these parameters, it is then possible to select the most efficient method regarding the test to be carried out, or even evaluate the performance of a given existing procedure.
Simulation is a major tool for what concerns cost reductions. The possibility to make some parametric variation on any setting parameter allows anticipating the test for instance during the conception stage of a component, or minimizing the number of mock ups to be manufactured to demonstrate the performance of a given testing procedure. Simulation tools can also be very powerful to help in designing a probe, in particular when it is a Phased-Array Probe.
The CIVA software covers a wide range of possible applications.
CIVA is used in the nuclear field by most of the biggest world companies, from France to South Korea, but also in the United-States, China or Japan. New testing designs, establishment of innovative solutions using Phased-Array probes, performance demonstration, or qualification of methods, CIVA is a great tool to combine technical optimization and cost reductions.
Aeronautics is also an industrial sector in which CIVA software is widely used. Accounting for complex materials, capability to simulate the effect of a given testing method on complex geometries, the great amount of possible probes and sensors to be designed, all this give the research departments wonderful assets so that CIVA quickly becomes essential.
In other industrial sectors such as transportation, metallurgy, aerospace, oil & gaz industry, CIVA not only offers technical solutions, allowing for understanding complex phenomenons, but is also a great tool for costs reduction.

General Philosophy of the CIVA software: comfort, performance, interpretation.
The CIVA software platform includes three major techniques of the Non Destructive Testing:
- Ultrasonic testing,
- Eddy-Current testing,
- Radiographic testing.
The Philosophy of CIVA is first to give the users the maximum of comfort and easiness of use in a context that is as close as possible to their industrial context. Thus, whatever the technique, CIVA allows defining a testing configuration using intuitive graphical user interfaces in which required input parameters are weel known. Those graphical user interfaces are synchronized with 3D views, allowing a real time visual checking by the user when he defines the test piece, the probe and all other parameters of his testing configuration. When everything has been set up, flaws integrated in the test piece, and testing zone defined, the test can be virtually processed by running the computation.
The CIVA Philosophy is then to provide computation results as fast as possible. For that, CIVA is based on semi-analytical models which in contrast with other numerical methods, allows to reach computation performances that are compatible with the use of the software in an industrial context, submitted to high productivity requirements.
Finally, the philosophy of the CIVA software is to help the user as much as possible for interpretation of the testing results. This is possible thanks to an advanced imaging system, integrating 3D reconstruction methods allowing for an accurate positioning of data in the frame of the test piece, and providing some advanced processing tools.
