{"id":267,"date":"2015-12-06T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-12-06T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.extende.com\/blog\/use-of-x-rays-to-control-art-pieces\/"},"modified":"2015-12-06T23:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-12-06T22:00:00","slug":"use-of-x-rays-to-control-art-pieces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.extende.com\/fr\/blog\/use-of-x-rays-to-control-art-pieces\/","title":{"rendered":"Use of X-rays to control art pieces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Let&rsquo;s focus on a less conventional aspect of NDT: The\u00a0<span class=\"g-color1\">NDT for cultural heritage<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>For over a century, scientists and historians agreed on the use of the\u00a0<span class=\"g-color2\">Roentgen invention<\/span>\u00a0to perfect our knowledge of art pieces.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"g-color2\">Radiography<\/span>\u00a0provides essential information on the present condition of the works of art, on the techniques of manufacturing or assembly which have been used to make them, and on the evolution of pieces of art over time (anterior restorations \/ degradation over time).\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Many museums use radiography equipment not only to analyze\u00a0<span class=\"g-color1\">paintings<\/span>\u00a0but also\u00a0<span class=\"g-color1\">sculptures<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span class=\"g-color1\">mummies<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Radiographs of works of art have also brought surprises (superimposed paintings\u2026) and have allowed a better understanding of the life of the artists. For example, we can mention \u00ab\u00a0<span class=\"g-color1\">A patch of grass<\/span>\u00a0\u00bb of VAN GOGH (Kr\u00f6ller-M\u00fcller Museum, Otterlo, Netherlands) that hides the portrait of a peasant woman painted a few years ago before the famous painting.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Radiography also has in some cases led to\u00a0<span class=\"g-color2\">authenticate an original painting<\/span>\u00a0from several copies examining the accuracy of strokes.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The EXTENDE&rsquo;s team<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let&rsquo;s focus on a less conventional aspect of NDT: The\u00a0NDT for cultural heritage.
