This ranking is based on the integration of data relating to intellectual property, the number of patents and publications indexed in the database of\u00a0Thomson Reuters<\/span>\u00a0platforms over the last 8 years.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The first 25 listed public<\/span>\u00a0organizations are classified according to\u00a010 criteria<\/span>, including the total number of identified publications, the percentage of publications including a co-author at least affiliated to a private entity, the volume of patents registered with the World International Property Organization (WIPO), the rate of \u00ab\u00a0success\u00a0\u00bb of patents (their rate of application), the patenting percentage covering both the US, Europe and Japan, or patent citation rate (Patent citation Index).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Note:\u00a0Fraunhofer<\/span>\u00a0(Germany) ranks\u00a0second<\/span>, the\u00a0Agency for Science and Technology of Japan\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0third<\/span>, and\u00a0Health & Human Services (HHS)<\/span>, the subsidiary of American NIH and CDC in charge of aspects of industrial property, ranks\u00a04th<\/span>\u00a0of this ranking.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
