In addition to <span class=\"g-color2\">model assessment<\/span>, other important <span class=\"g-color2\">aspects influencing simulation<\/span> results are considered including<span class=\"g-color1\"> i<\/span><span class=\"g-color1\">nputs to the models<\/span>, computational complexity and model run-times, <span class=\"g-color1\">material microstructures<\/span>, flaw morphology, etc.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>In this report, <span class=\"g-color3\">PNNL<\/span> focused on the use of<span class=\"g-color1\"> CIVA<\/span> for evaluating models of the <span class=\"g-color1\">ultrasound beam <\/span>and the use of both beam models and <span class=\"g-color1\">flaw response models<\/span> for simulating <span class=\"g-color2\">coarse-grained<\/span> materials in <span class=\"g-color2\">austenitic welds<\/span>, dissimilar metal welds, and cast austenitic stainless steel materials.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>After testing many of the features of the <span class=\"g-color1\">CIVA UT module<\/span> and running multiple varied simulations, <span class=\"g-color3\">PNNL<\/span> has demonstrated that <span class=\"g-color1\">CIVA <\/span>is a <span class=\"g-color1\">powerful and versatile tool<\/span> for ultrasonic modelling, but it should be used with good knowledge of its <span class=\"g-color2\">limitations<\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>You can read the full paper <a class=\"lien\" href=\"https:\/\/adamswebsearch2.nrc.gov\/webSearch2\/main.jsp?AccessionNumber=ML20122A252\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"(Nouvelle fen\u00eatre)\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The <span class=\"g-color1\">EXTENDE<\/span> team<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A very interesting paper about evaluation of commercially available nondestructive examination modelling and simulation software packages used in the nuclear industry was recently published by the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL).
