15th May, 2013

We had the privilege to ask Mr. João Conte, Executive Director at ABENDI, to answer our questions.

João Conte

Next June, the COTEQ conference, organised by the ABENDI, will take place in Porto de Galinhas for its 11th edition. What are your expectations for this meeting?

We have very high expectations for the COTEQ 2013. The technical program is extremely consistent. Besides the presentation of technical papers, we have many sessions and special events of utmost importance.

Most of the participants are Brazilian, but it seems that this event is getting more and more international. Which nationalities are the most represented to your point of view?

In our point of view, COTEQ is acquiring an international context at great speed. We have representatives from Latin America, U.S.A., Canada, several European countries and from Asia.

An Brazil, how is the NDT sector growing?

The NDT sector has grown in a significant way in Brazil in the past years, due to the importance of its utilization, and also because of codes, norms and contractual requirements from large buyers which has fixed the inspection as an exigency.

What are the industrial sectors that mainly use NDT in Brazil?

Historically, the NDTs from Brazil are largely applied in the sectors of petrol/petrochemical. Beside them, the sectors of nuclear, aeronautic, automotive and siderurgy also use NDT in a decisive and crescent way. We have noticed that nowadays, the application of NDT has been very broadcasted in other sectors, such as rail, pulp and paper, and civil construction.
